In the last post, I shared with you the many ways Lloyd Security can help make your business security.  To wrap up my series of thoughts on business security, let me give you five common sense tips for making your business secure.   We often overlook these simple tips for business security.

1. Locks on all exterior doors.  Routinely check your exterior doors to make sure the locks are working securely.  With repeated usage, many locks weaken over time.  Installing a second deadbolt lock makes your business even more secure.
2. Keys.  In a previous post I talked about your business keys.  Make sure your keys do not have the name of your business on them.  If they fall into the wrong hands, it provides a quick access to your business.  You may have to change locks if former employees have not returned their keys.  It is always a good idea to have stamped on your business keys, Do not Duplicate.  Most locksmiths will honor this request.
3. Store valuables away.  Install a safe or secure place where you can place your business valuables.  Access to this safe place should be limited and out of sight.  If you have a retail business with windows looking in on the business, leave the cash register drawer open and empty.  This can act as a deterrent to a thief.
4. Lighting.  It’s a good idea to leave on an interior light during the night time.  Also check your exterior lighting to make sure they are in good working order.  We often leave for home before it gets dark and return to work when it is light.  You need to periodically check to see that these exterior lights are working properly to provide the night time protection you want for the exterior of your business.
5. Never resist.  If you are confronted by a thief, you should never resist.  I know we want to protect our business and its valuables.  It is not worth your life.  How many times do we see a TV story about a business owner that is killed trying to overpower a robber?  Leave the police do their work.  You have a life and family that are more valuable than your business.  Be safe!
